There are some things you pray for so long that, after a while, you begin to wonder whether you heard God correctly.
“God, You promised me this… didn’t You?”
You remember the dream. You remember the prayer. You remember the covenant you held onto when there was absolutely no evidence that anything was changing.
Days became months. Months became years. And somewhere between believing and waiting, you learned that a promise from God doesn’t always come with a timeline.
Abraham understood this.
God promised him descendants when his circumstances seemed to say otherwise.
“He took him outside and said, ‘Look up at the sky and count the stars… So shall your offspring be.’” — Genesis 15v5
Yet Abraham had to wait.
And isn’t that sometimes the hardest part of a promise? The space between what God said and what we can see.
We want immediate evidence. God often asks for faith.
“Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed…” — Romans 4v18
There are moments when all you have is what God told you. Nothing around you supports it. People may question it. Circumstances may contradict it. Even you may occasionally wonder if you imagined it.
But then one day…
The prayer becomes the testimony.
The thing you cried about becomes the thing you thank God for.
The promise you carried quietly becomes something you can finally see.
“The Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised.” — Genesis 21v1
As He had said.
Those words say everything.
God didn’t forget.
The waiting wasn’t evidence that He had abandoned the covenant. The delay didn’t cancel the promise.
And perhaps that’s the lesson: when God makes a promise, our responsibility isn’t to determine when He will fulfill it. Our responsibility is to trust the One who made it.
So when the dream finally comes to pass, don’t forget the years when all you had was faith.
Remember the prayers.
Remember the tears.
Remember the nights you almost stopped believing.
Then look at what God has done and say:
“You promised me. I waited. I trusted You. And now I understand—you were faithful all along.”
“Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.” — Joshua 21v45
The dream became reality.
The promise became testimony.
The covenant came to pass.
And through it all, God remained faithful.
