Ever feel like you’re at your wits’ end and there’s nowhere else to go? You can’t move forward, but going backward isn’t an option either. You look to the left and to the right, hoping for an answer, a sign, something—and there seems to be nothing there.
Then come those words: “I’m fed up!”
Friend, we all have those moments. Moments when we don’t know what to do next because we simply cannot see a way out. We’ve prayed, waited, tried to remain hopeful, and yet everything still feels dark.
But then I’m reminded of the beginning.
“The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep… And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” — Genesis 1v2–3
Didn’t the dark come before the light?
Before there was light, there was darkness. Before there was order, there was emptiness. Yet even in that darkness, God was present. His Spirit was moving before the light ever appeared.
Maybe that’s what we sometimes forget.
Just because we cannot see God working doesn’t mean He isn’t. Just because we don’t know what comes next doesn’t mean He hasn’t already prepared the way.
There will be seasons when the only prayer we have left is:
“We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” — 2 Chronicles 20v12
And maybe that is enough.
So when life feels dark and you’ve reached the point of saying, “I’m fed up,” remember that darkness does not automatically mean the end. Sometimes it is simply the place where we learn to stop depending on what we can see and start trusting the One who can see what we cannot.
The darkness may be real, but so is God.
Hold on.
Keep looking toward Him.
Because the same God who once looked into darkness and said, “Let there be light,” is still able to speak light into the darkest places of our lives.
