They slept.
They woke up.
They’re breathing. Their bodies move as they should. They head to work, navigate daily stresses, think about dinner plans, prepare for tomorrow. Life moves on—rinse and repeat. And yet, in the ordinary rhythm of their day, mercy quietly flows.
Let’s look at it differently:
They slept but were not extended the mercy to rise again.
They slept and woke up, but their bodies could no longer move as usual.
They slept, woke up, moved as usual, but found their source of provision gone.
We often overlook what has become familiar. But Scripture reminds us: “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22–23)
Each breath, each movement, each new day is evidence of God’s sustaining grace. Not everyone who laid down last night opened their eyes this morning. Not everyone who opened their eyes could stand. Not everyone who stood had work to go to or food to eat.
This is why gratitude matters—not just for the extraordinary, but for the quiet mercies that meet us at sunrise. “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24).
So pause for a moment. Look beyond the routine. The fact that you slept and rose again, clothed in mercy, is a reminder of God’s faithfulness. Every ordinary day is, in fact, a miracle wrapped in grace.
