When You Don’t Know What to Do
How do you decide… when you just don’t know?
You’re standing at a crossroads. Both roads stretch out before you, blurry, uncertain. Your heart pulls in two directions. Your thoughts are loud. Your peace feels quiet. And heaven? It seems silent at the moment you need direction the most.
I’ve been there.
And I’ve learned—God often speaks the loudest through gentle nudges. So here’s what helps when the next step feels unclear:
First, Pause Before You Proceed
Sometimes we demand answers, but what we need is stillness.
God says, “Be still, and know that I am God”—Psalm 46:10
Stillness isn’t doing nothing—it’s intentionally listening. It’s stepping back so your spirit can breathe, and your heart can lean in. Clarity often comes when we quiet the chaos.
Then, Pray—Not Just for Answers, but for Alignment
Don’t just ask, “What should I do?” Ask, “Why am I doing it?”
Ask God:
Does this honor You?
Will this grow me?
Am I trying to please others—or please You?
When your heart aligns with God’s purpose, the path may not always get easier, but it does become clearer.
Pay Attention to Peace
Not every right decision feels obvious. But peace? That’s often how God confirms His direction.
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts”—Colossians 3:15
If you feel rushed, anxious, or unsettled—pause. Peace isn’t passive. It’s a holy compass.
Step Through the Door That Opens with Purpose—Not Pressure
If it feels forced, confusing, or too heavy—wait.
God doesn’t build doors meant to crush you.
But when it’s right? The door opens with confirmation, wisdom, and divine timing.
God’s not in a hurry. So why are we?
Trust That God Can Redirect a Moving Heart
Here’s the grace: even if you don’t choose perfectly—He meets you there.
He’s not limited by your confusion. He’s the God who guides through it.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart… in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”—Proverbs 3:5–6
Even in uncertainty, God knows how to lead you home.
So when you’re unsure—
Pause.
Pray.
Pay attention.
Don’t force it.
And most of all—trust.
Because God sees what you can’t. And He will never leave you wandering without a way.
